New Sources report that a man was tasered in the back during an argument about walking his dogs unleashed. The Parks ranger shot Gary Hesterberg with a stun gun on Sunday at Rancho Corral de Tierra in San Mateo County. Allegedly Mr Hesterberg tried to walk away after supplying  a false name when accused with violating park rules.

Park rangers are considered peace officers just like any police officer and carry full law enforcement powers. According to U.S. Department of Justice figures the National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers suffer the most number of felonious assaults and the highest number of homicides of all federal law enforcement officers. The do not carry firearms but carry stun guns in some areas.

Rancho Corral was incorporated into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which last year proposed tighter rules on dogs.

The proposal suggests that leashes would be required in open spaces where dogs currently roam untethered, and some popular dog-walking areas would be closed to canines entirely. This has angered many dog owners.
