A craft shop in Japan is producing replicas of pets that were lost during the 2011 earthquake. Kinomoto, a shop in the city of Kitakata, wants to help pet owners remember their cats and dogs.
Before the disaster the shop was popular for selling handcrafted souvenirs, but after March 2011 it started to receive inquiries from people that were evacuated from towns near the nuclear plants to make models replicating their deceased pets.
The concept apparently became so popular some of the owners have to wait up to six months to receive the lifelike copy of their beloved companion. It’s worth the wait though: some of the customers were moved to tears when they received the handmade models that are based on photographs of the lost pets.
